Dakota Quartzite is associated with the Dakota formation, which is primarily sandstone, which extends from the plains of New Mexico into the Dakotas.  High quality Dakota Quartzite is found along the northwestern escarpment of the Llano Estacado extending into northwestern New Mexico.  Another high quality source is found in the panhandle of Oklahoma and into southeastern Colorado.  Outcroppings reported along the Little Arkansas River of Kansas.
