Color:  Edwards Chert ranges in color from most commonly light gray to dark brown or a medium gray to blue.  Light gray material commonly has numerous short linear fossil inclusions with a white or cream colored cortex.

Edwards Chert is associated with the Edwards Limestone Formation found throughout the Edwards Plateau of central Texas.  Primary occurring as nodules (up to 40 cm) and lenses, discontinuously within the limestone formation across the Callahan Divide and Edwards Plateau of central Texas including the Bosque Basin.
