Color:  Eminence Chert is most commonly gray, but may vary to a dark gray or reddish brown.  Usually vugs lined with crystallized dolomite or quartz and fine banding of cloudy white and light gray may be present.

Eminence Chert is associated with the Eminence Formation of Missouri.  Primary outcroppings occur in Washington County, Missouri along Courtois Creek commonly found in nodules.  Also occurs near Eminence, Shannon County Missouri, in deep valleys  near Osage in Camden and Morgan counties, and in , Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, and Ste. Genevieve counties.  Chert is local and abundant.
