Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color: Jefferson City Chert ranges from a light gray to brown in color.  Multiple variations may exist including a

Oolitic chert
that ranges from an off white to a pale blue with small round or elongated white oolitic speckles 2 mm in diameter

Banded chert
ranging from a off white to a pale purple with narrow banding alternating banding (often concentric) of  brown, blue, and purple. 

Mottled chert is a more common chert with mottling banded chert coloration.  The mottling pattern generally exhibits a streaking, swirling, or disturbed banding appearance.

Dense chert which is white with a pearly luster.
