Lowville Chert is associated with the Lowville Formation of the Black River Group of New York, Vermont, Ontario, and Quebec.  Primarily occurs as irregular shaped scattered nodules with exposures occurring on Lowville, Lewis County, New York, South Hero Island in northwestern Vermont, and from Arnold Bay to Crown Point in northeastern New York.  In Quebec exposures occur from the Ottawa Embayment ton the southern portion of the Quebec Basin.  Formation previously called Birdseye Formation.
