Color:  Normanskill Chert can range from a light green to a dark green or brownish green with darker bands being present.  A reddish green / green variant has been reported in Washington County, New York.  Red jasper also occurs in this formation.

Luster: Dull to waxy

Distribution Comments:

Normanskill Chert is associated with the Mount Merino and Indian River Formations of the Normanskill Group of south eastern New York and western Vermont. Exposures occur throughout the lower Hudson River valley with primary outcroppings found in Ulster, Dutchess, Green, Columbia, Albany, Renselaer, Saratoga, and Washington  counties, New York and Rutland County, Vermont.
