Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color: Pipe Creek Chert ranges in color from gray to bluish gray or a pale brown.  May be mottled or homogenous.  May have light blue cloudy or darker gray colorations and quartz lined vugs may be present.

Texture: 
Medium to fine grain
 

Luster: Satin to vitreous

Silica Fabrics / Fossils: Brachiopods and echinoderms

Patina: The patina is a yellowish green

Heat Treatment:  Heat treatment produces a red or brown coloration.
