Ranger Chert is associated with the Ranger Limestone Member of the Brad Formation of central to north central Texas.  Primarily occurs as nodules in the Brazos River Valley and the Colorado River Valley of Texas.  Named for exposures west of Ranger, Eastland County, Texas where the Brazos River cuts deep canyons in western Palo Pinto County.
