Thunderbird Rhyolite is associated with the Thunderbird Formation of western Texas and southeastern New Mexico.  Primary outcroppings occur in the southwestern flanks of North and South Mountains of the southern Franklin Mountains from Tom Mays Memorial Park to McKelligon Canyon.
