Whitehall Chert is associated with the Whitehall Formation of the Beekmantown Group of Vermont and New York primarily occurring as nodules throughout the formation, but heavier concentrations in the lower portion of the formation.   Exposures occur in the Champlain Valley of Vermont and on Skene Mountain near Whitehall, Washington County, New York.  Other exposures occur throughout the Adirondack lowlands and Lake Champlain lowlands (west of the Orwell and Champlain thrusts).
