Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large ovoid point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is excurvate with the tip curving in, becoming almost parallel and then curving back in towards the base.  The base may vary from convex to straight.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

ATHAPAP  LANCEOLATE – was named by archaeologist Walter M. Hlady for examples recovered from the type site near Flin Flon and Lake Athapapuskow in Manitoba, Canada (1st map below) and within the Great Plains Cultural Region (2nd map below).  They are one of the Athapap culture point types in use during the Woodland to Late Archaic period.  They are medium to large sized (3 to 5”) leaf shaped, bi-pointed or round or straight based projectiles or knives with convex blades.  Reference: Hlady, Walter M. 1970, Indians of North America.  Manitoba Archaeological Society - 319 pages.
