Gettysburg Siltstone is associated with the Gettysburg Formation (Hammer Creek Formation) of the Newark Group of Pennsylvania and into Maryland.  Named for exposures at Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania.  Exposures occur at the narrow neck of the Newark-Gettysburg Basin, along Hammer Creek, along the Schuylkill River extending into Fredrick County Maryland in the Emmitsburg and Thurmont area.
