Loyalhanna Chert is associated with the Loyalhanna Limestone Formation of the Maxwell Group of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.  Primary outcroppings occur along the Loyalhanna Creek, Conemaugh River and Youghiogheny River in southwestern Pennsylvania, Cemetery Hill, Derry, and near St. Xavier in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
