Color:  Maquoketa Chert ranges in color from a pale olive gray to a pale gray.  Banding or streaking may be present.

Maquokea chert is associated with the Maquoketa Formation at the juncture of the overlying the Sulurian Dolomite Formation.  has primary outcroppings are found along the Door Peninsula of Fillmore County, Minnesota.  May occur into northern Illinois southeastern Minnesota, and northeastern Iowa.
