Color: Olive Chert is a homogenous light to medium olive gray.  May vary from opaque to a semi-translucent.

Texture: 
Ranges from a chalky medium grain to a chalcedony like fine grain

Luster:  Dull to vitreous

Heat Treatment:  Heat treatment brings out weak red hues.

Olive chert is primarily found in Berrien, Cass, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph counties, but it is suggested that it can be found throughout southwestern Michigan and into northwestern Indiana.  Olive Chert is a Glacial Till chert.
