Shear Zone Chalcedony is associated with the grinding and pulverizing of gneissic and granitoid formation of the Shear Zone.  Primarily occurs as thin layers in Greene, Madison, and Rockbridge counties, Virginia and occurs as nodules in rivers to Roanoke County, Virginia.
