Shiver Chert is associated with the Shiver Formation of the Helderberg Group of  New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia  Primarily occurs as beds in Allegany County Maryland and Snyder and Union County, Pennsylvania.  Extends from Cumberland, Maryland to Monterey Virginia.  Named for exposures on Shiver Ridge near Cumberland, Maryland.
