Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a medium to large auriculate lanceolate point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is most commonly an inward recurvate, with a slight constricting at the waist of the point and flaring back in at the base of the point.  The base ranges from slightly concave to concave and may have basal thinning or grinding.  The most common flaking pattern in oblique parallel with random flaking also being common.  Less commonly seen is horizontal transverse.

Additional Comments:

These points were named Levi after the type site where they were found.  Two types were found at this site.  One was a lanceolate form and the other was a constricted stem point.  Both points were thought to be made by the same localized group.  Herbert (1974) suggested that the lanceolate form be re-named Plainview-Angostura.  This point is now considered to be part of the Angostura type.  The second constricting stem form was re-named Victoria-Angostura by Hester in 1976. (Perttula, 2004).

Many examples from the Levi Rockshelter were re-typed as St. Mary Hall points.  These two types may represent the same type.
