Richie was a prominent anthropologist who served as the state archaeologist for the State of New York, the State Museum and Science Service.  He excavated over 100 sites in the state of New York and published over 150 professional publications.  He named this type in a professional publication and this type has many professional references.  This is considered a valid type.
Brewerton Eared Triangle

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small to medium triangular side notch point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily excurvate, but may be straight.  The side notches are shallow and parallel.  The stem (when present) is expanding.  The base is straight and may have basal grinding.  This point is a variant of the Brewerton Eared, but is generally wider and thinner with shallow notches.  This point has a random flaking pattern.
Size Measurements:

Length - 27 to 60 mm (27 to 38 mm average), Stem Length - 6 to 9 mm (7 mm average),  Blade Width - 14 to 24 mm (16 mm average),  Stem Width -16 to 26 mm (18 mm average), Thickness - 5 to 6 mm

This is a rarely found point of the Brewerton Complex.  This point is primarily found in the northeastern states and into the Ohio River Valley.  It is rarely found in any of the other highlighted areas.
